I definitley agree with the statement that it’s nearly impossible to get enough protein without supplements. Take professional bodybuilders – guys who are gigantic (and steroid filled) with enormous appetites; yet they rely heavily on supplements, too, and probably couldn’t get enough protein or calories without them.
A great article with some valid points. I think that supplements can be really beneficial, especially for those people who have a really hectic lifestyle and sometimes struggle to eat enough raw fruit and vegetables. Some supplements are better than others and I’m not so sure about the nutritional benefit of some of the body building supplements, especially ones that contain colourings and flavourings – I’m thinking of chocolate flavoured supplements for example. These could contain sugars that if not burned off may ultimately turn to fat – so it is important to strike a balance with supplements and the training regime – after all you can’t expect to gain muscle by just taking a protein supplement alone.
