How about growing your urban garden?
In the midst of an economic crisis, families flock to the supermarket to stretch their grocery budget. Fresh fruits and vegetables become a luxury for many. Again, processed foods, such as canned and frozen foods are on the grocery list, although, we know that these are not necessarily the healthiest choices. Organic meats as well as organic grown crops these days are just too heavy on the wallet. In light of this, the 2 Dollar special jumbo-combo could look mighty tempting indeed. What about the promise of better food choices, taking a stand against animal cruelty, ill health effects from hormones, pest control chemicals, and preservatives added to food sources? Some people found the answer to this problem as they take matters into their hands by growing their own urban fruit and vegetables and raising their own chickens…
There has even been talk of a chicken coop, which would be a wonderful symbol because every chicken in a backyard is at least one less bird subjected to the grotesque cruelty of factory farming, which we pretend is not the real cost behind every cheap chicken breast, wing and pale egg.
The hidden costs of our food system are high. There is the obvious cost in health as our diets have an abundance of bulk and taste but an increasing paucity of nutritional value. The energy cost is extremely high, with a mass-distribution system built on transportation, packaging, refrigeration, storage and preservation. The moral cost is also high as food animals, especially chickens, live out their lives in an abject state of constriction. Urban street gardens – communal food production.

eating organic, and whole foods, is not always as easy at looks. It is expensive as you say. I have a couple of recipes actually on my blog that help with this type of stuff. Eat healthy for a decent price.

Good food does cost more than fast food. The best way to have more money for good food, and at the same time lose a few pounds, is to carry around a small note-book. Every time that you do not eat something on the spur of the moment; jot down how much money that you saved, and then later on use that money to purchase healthy food. Being healthy is a lifestyle, not a diet. There are many good tips on how to achieve permanent weight loss; none of them includes gimmicks, diets, or diet pills. To assist with weight control; keep a daily food journal and every time the urge to snack is felt, first drink a large glass of clear water. The major reason so many people in America are overweight is because we eat too much for comfort! It does not hurt to treat ourselves with something special once in a while, what is necessary is that we limit our portions and do not overeat! It is also necessary to keep our body properly hydrated, so drink a full glass of water with each meal or snack. Being overweight ******, but after reading a book, I lost 85 pounds! Words can not express how good I feel! This is a comment which I recently received about the book Lose Weight Using Four Easy Steps
