If you are not restricted to a low sodium diet and you like the taste of a healthy soup you’re on your way to a healthier, happier and slimmer you. Choose a soup before lunch and dinner.
Eating a bowl of soup before your main course will prompt your body to release hunger control hormones, for soup is rich in “fat triggers and satiety hormones” that will make you feel full quickly. Consequently, you’ll eat less and thus, cut your calories naturally without having to force yourself to adhere to portion control.
Here’s a few suggestions:
- 1 cup Mediterranean Style Meatball plus 1 tsp. olive oil
- 1 cup French Onion soup plus 2 Tbs. Parmesan
- 1 cup Amy’s Organic Chunky Tomato Bisque plus 1 1/2 Tbs. Shredded Cheddar
- 1/2 cup condensed Cream of Chicken soup plus 1/2 cup of water and 1tsp. garlic-infused olive oil
- 1 cup Campbell’s Select Potato Broccoli Cheese soup and 1 slice of cooked, crumbled bacon
- 1 cup canned seafood bisque
Creamy Spring Vegetable Soup:
Ingredients:
- 1 tsp. vegetable oil
- 1/4 zucchini, coarsely chopped
- 1/4 cup chopped carrots
- 1 Tbs. sliced green onions
- 1/8 dried basil, crushed
- 1/2 clove garlic, minced
- 1/4 cup chopped spinach
- 2/3 chicken broth
- 3 Tbs half-and-half
- 1/4 cup tomato, chopped
Directions:
Heat the oil in saucepan over medium heat. Add zucchini, carrot, onion, basil and garlic; cook until vegetables are tender. Remove from heat. Add spinach, broth, half-and-half and tomato; heat through, stirring often. Serves: 1.Source: Woman’s World 2/25/08
