Mountain biking requires great physical endurance and balancing skills: If you crave the ride of your life and love pushing yourself to the limit, the mountain bike is for you. And you don’t have to live in the mountains to experience the adrenaline rush of mountain biking because wooded trails and even paved roads can be just as fun.
Mountain biking comes in five flavors:
- Cross country downhill
- Free riding
- Dirt jumping
- Trail riding
- Street riding
Are mountain bikes different from regular bikes?
Mountain bikes have good shock absorbers, large, round tubing and a solid frame that is smaller and stronger compared to other types of bikes. Wider tires are pulled over strong rims, and the lower range gears help smooth the climb over obstacles and steep hills. The upwardly rising handle bar helps for better control of your bike.
For me, riding my bike downhill for a couple of miles is pure-thrill-wow-factor and worth a try for everyone who dares.
However, start slow and remember the old rule – safety first. Also know your bike, since you may need to repair a flat tire or put the chain back into place. Bring tools to do that. Ride with your friends. Most of all get in shape thrillingly!
