Can three moms sitting on a tractor, while plowing through a potato field, hide the reality of childhood obesity we are facing right now, this minute all over the country… and yes the world?
It’s all about image! Instead of dealing with the problem of childhood obesity, McDonalds is using real life moms to create this image of ‘healthy French Fries’. This approach, I call it the ‘McDonalds McOver’ has moms asking questions about the makings of their French Fries. But should this ease the mind of a health conscious mom? Certainly not! The king size serving of McDonalds’ French Fries contain about 500 calories alone.
For me, I’m surprised at this. McDonalds is communicating a message that could easily be mistaken. They are using the media and moms to create an image of somewhat healthy French Fries in the minds of unsuspecting mothers and fathers. Because of this campaign, parents might just feel a little better watching their kids devouring fatty French Fries. But kids grow up. Many of our kids become obese adults facing problems that they should not suffer with at all.
Why not keep the message clear? This would surely increase McDonalds’ credibility in my eyes.
Interesting Fact: Only 100 extra calories a day – depending on your activity level – can add up to 10 pounds of body fat in a year.
