fotolia_eric_gevaert_0.jpg People ask me, what are weight loss camps? First of all, weight loss camps are not fat camps, although they are often described that way. Instead, they should be called fitness camps, because their aim is not just weight loss, but also the development of healthy habits to maintain that weight loss. They are comprehensive programs whose approach involves two major elements: a controlled environment, and learning by doing. To be effective, a weight loss camp will be geared toward a complete lifestyle make-over that ultimately leads to a happier and healthier life after
camp.

So what qualities should one look for in a weight loss camp?

Its controlled environment should not only support peoples’ endeavor to lose weight but also encourage health-conscious living that incorporates a nutrition and exercise regimen for life. Success depends on a well-executed program with proven and lasting results. Therefore it is essential to ask questions and find people who have already attended the weight loss camp.

The weight loss camp curriculum should include high intensity activities, educational lectures, and fitness sessions. Ideally, therapies such as relaxation and pampering through cleansing and detoxification (other than laxatives) should also be part of the program. Special focus should be given to the body’s natural metabolic ability and the individual’s particular needs. Instructors should have an approach that encompasses more than physical and nutritional requirements, but also addresses mental and emotional aspects of weight loss.

The following story illustrates how enrolling into a weight loss camp can help restore a person’s health and confidence.

This successful weight loss boot camp story was aired by CNN in Atlanta, Georgia. Tim Lenczowski, 39, weighed 335 pounds and was suffering from such terrible pain in his knees and ankles, that everyday activities became a challenge. He enrolled in an intensive regimen that incorporated running to lose weight. With the guidance and support of his instructors, Tim developed the self-belief that if he could run a mile, he could run half-a-marathon too.

After eight months, Tim lost 120 pounds. He returned home with a healthy heart and his hypertension (high blood pressure) had become a health problem of the past.

To date, Tim has run 5 full- and 12 half-marathons. He is more outgoing and happier than ever before, and guess what, he is a fitness instructor too!

Tim says:

  • Seek out the weight loss plan that works best for you
  • Do Research and discuss problem areas with Instructor
  • Build family and friend support system
  • Track your progress regularly
  • Push yourself a little harder every day
  • Engage your mind, being open to new things like yoga
  • Move out of your comfort zone and try new things
  • Enjoy the process of healthy living every day new
