wendi-evans_977310.jpg By mid-morning I’m ready for a low-fat, high protein, and high fiber snack. My favorite choices are low-fat cottage cheese or yogurt mixed with flax seed oil, flax seeds, and strawberries. The flax oil gives it a creamy texture while the flax seed lends the crunch. Strawberries are high in fiber and antioxidants, besides being so delicious and still relatively inexpensive.

Dairy products (make sure they’re vitamin D fortified), such as low-fat cottage cheese and low-fat yogurt are naturally high protein foods. Protein helps curb cravings, which is important when you want to lose weight. Vitamin D and calcium help strengthen bones.

Now try this same recipe by exchanging or mixing the flax seeds with chia seeds. Chia seed is high in antioxidants, calcium and fiber…

And watch a low-fat snack turn to super food! Chia seeds are especially effective to help curb cravings for high carb foods.

If you’ve ever used chia seeds in your meals… please share it with us…

Earlier this week I read a discussion about chia seeds that was started by a member of the forums over at Backpacking Light. What I’ve learned is that this is a incredible, nutrient-packed little seed and versatile too…

Chia Seed Recipes

Chia Seeds are a powerhouse nutritional food with benefits superior to flax seeds. Chia has a very mild flavor (and no “fishy” taste like other foods high in Omega-3 acids). They are extremely rich in Omega-3 acids and are a very good …

I hope the web sites above help you determine if chia seeds might be right for you…

I love chia seeds. Every morning I add them to my smoothie or put them in my granola. I usually grind them first, although not always. I also take 1 or 2 tbsp of ground chia seeds in fresh apple juice or homemade nutmilk. They work as a mild laxative for me. So if I’ve eaten things that I think might “back me up” the next day I take the chia at night and then again in the morning. They are very nutritious and GREAT for colon cleansing due to their water-soluble fiber, which creates a mucilage, similar to flax seeds.

Because they are similar to flax they work in Raw Food Cracker recipes, instead of flax. Some people get terrible gas from flax, I never experience that from chia.

I’m a vegan Raw Food Chef and Consultant and I have many recipes using Chia Seeds. I don’t have a website, yet. I’ll come back here when I do.

I have 4 teaspoons of chia seeds in the morning with a handful of frozen blueberries, 2 tbs of flax seed, 2 tbs of plain yoghurt, a small handful of walnuts, a dash of cold water and sometimes half a banana if I have some, I mix it in a milkshake holder with a hand held blender. This is delicious and fills me up until dinner time.

Im 41 and my friends tell me I look 31, the flax is so good for your skin, mine is never dry and it glows. If I run out of some of the ingredients (which I do maybe once or twice a week), I just mix my ground flax with water and drink it down, it pretty easy, it has that nutty flavour to it, I also do this with chia but have to be ever quicker as it turns to gel! My health store lady thinks Im crazy but its really not hard to do and it still fills you up. I grind my bag of flax once a week and keep it in the fridge. Superfood overload!! :)
