HFCS Yahoo Article Gets People Riled Up

HFCS (high fructose corn syrup) is a highly concentrated, sweeter alternative to regular white sugar. In chemical terms, or overall math terms, five percent more fructose and five percent less glucose (compared to the consistency of regular white sugar) could make a difference and alter the way food is digested by the body. That’s just my thought on this as I’d rather add a heaping tsp. of white sugar to my tea than the HFCS. In a nutshell, the article states that HFCS is not detrimental to your health.

The thing is, HFCS has not been proven to be the culprit (at least not by itself) of obesity and as such is approved by the FDA, but soda and potato chips (among many others) have. The industry sweetens the consumer’s palate just enough so we buy a little faster and for convenience sake. How can that not be a culprit to health and obesity problems we’re facing today? It makes me want to shout: STOP! I want to put on the sugar myself… Let’ file a petition: Who else…

Article Excerpt: health.yahoo.com

One myth about HFCS is that it alters your metabolism in such a way that promotes fat storage and increases your appetite. The thought behind this is that, unlike glucose, fructose somehow keeps the body from releasing enough of the satiety hormones we need to feel full. But this is nonsense: The makeup of HFCS (55 percent fructose and 45 percent glucose) is close to that of white sugar (50 percent fructose and 50 percent glucose), which means that our bodies digest HFCS and sugar in very similar ways.

Sweetners That Are Good For You

Assuming that anything that said Granola, whole grain or yogurt on the label is healthy and supportive to lose weight with, I’d skip reading such labels or scan them only quickly for their goodness. Perhaps a neglect you can identify with, since time is of essence for many of us. Only just recently my eyes and ears perk up when the word HFCS pops up, either in an article I read or the food labels I now check thoroughly.

Why? High Fructose Corn Syrup or HFCS impairs liver and pancreas function. Organs responsible to metabolize and regulate blood sugar; Blood sugar spikes leave you feel hungry even after a meal or snack, sabotaging your weight loss goal altogether. Hence, HFCS limits the liver’s ability to detoxify the body and break down fat cells. Further more, blood sugar changes can cause diabetes.

French Vanilla Coffee Creamer Facts

Now almost noon. I’ve been up and working since 6am. First thing is to turn on the coffee machine and fill a quarter of my big mug with French Vanilla creamer. That’s my all important treat for the day. It’s like rewarding me for getting up early - especially when knowing that one TBS has 35 calories from high fructose corn syrup (processed corn sugar isn’t good). I use about three good heaps of coffee creamer which adds up to about 110 calories. WARNING: you can’t do this throughout the day when you base your food intake on a 2000 calories/day plan.

When you want to lose weight in belly fat or simply make healthy choices for yourself then the creamer in your coffee should be no more than a once a morning treat. Oh well, you can cheat… make it once an afternoon event. Exception: If your body wants the caffeine, just add 1TBS Coffee Creamer to each cup three times a day :)
