For most people, walking is just an every day activity. We walk busily while at work or step out briskly during break time to go grab a nice coffee. Some of us explore the trails of Vermont or do a little hiking on trails behind our home. Some of us simply go walking the dog. Other times we are walking miles throughout the mall.

But how many of us truly utilize the body’s unique features for walking? How many of us know how to get the most fat-burning power out of the simple act of getting from point A to point B? Not many!

I hope the following video will start you off walking with walking in mind:

Power walking success tips with wellness guru Dr. Tim Ramirez. Proper form and technique for power walking to help you burn fat and increase energy

Diet, nutrition and portion control are all important factors for losing belly fat. And so is exercise. So why not burn the fat and feed the muscle with an activity we already do every day, like walking?

Simply put, power walking is walking with attitude.

Feel your belly muscles and your core as you walk. Use your core for balance by pulling in your abdominal muscles (belly). Focus on your breathing by inhaling through the nose and out through the mouth.

Pay special attention to your posture. By carrying your body nice and tall, you can’t help but feel the strength of your lower back, legs, quads and gluts (upper leg muscle group) all the way to your toes.

Take notice of your upper body, shoulder, arm and chest muscles (deltoids, biceps and pectorals). And look up and around…

You are looking straight ahead. You meet eyes. Yes, you are not focusing on the ground. You feel aware of your surroundings. This time, you’re not missing the sun as she is going down… or a smile that’s coming your way.

Power walking is more than just getting in shape; it’s another way to enjoy life.

I think that people highly underestimate the benefits of just walking. If you are out of shape, it’s not absolutely necessary to get into a workout routine that will hurt you if you are not used to it, or will be easy to give up . . . just start doing some walking. The dog will probably like you more for it too . . . ;)
